Last night I was thinking about what else I could write about for the site, then it hit me. Surely any climbing website worth reading has one of these, yet I seemed to have overlooked it. And so, without further ado…
The Generic Patagonia R1 Hoody Review!
There is probably little to say about this top that you information hungry internet folks haven’t come across on a number of other sites and so I won’t bore you. Mostly I’ve just put this up here in the same manor as the bag review, to say that I have one! Patagonia had them in their fall range last year and I was lucky (as lucky as you can be to spend £100 on a fleece) enough to pick one up. Needless to say (I had the last laugh…) this is my favorite piece of clothing I own. Crazy warm, perfect cut, thumb loops and the most wonderful ninja cut hood. Last winter I didn’t have to carry a hat which I think is great, nothing to have stuffed in your chest pockets making you feel fat! The thumb loops keep wrists warmer for longer which is crucial and they aren’t bulky at all under gloves. Worn alone it’s perfect for cold weather running or as a single layer under a windproof.
I do try to use it only for ‘proper’ applications as using it everyday will definitely wear it out. It does have a couple of holes in already, mostly from tree branches. This is due to the way the material is made, it is very thin in the gridded areas of the fleece. Also I did have to cut a fair chunk of labels out of it, but they are gone now and I sleep properly again. These combined with its lack of availability would be my only downsides, minor for sure as long as you have one!
So there we go, short and generic yet extremly truthful! If you’re ever in Buenos Aries and see a taxi driver wearing a black one please email me, thanks.
