A rough outline is already in the title!
The plan is that on our way to my good friend Nik’s wedding in Colorado we’ll be dropping through the valley for a quick ascent of The Nose on El Capitan. It will be Kate’s first time on a wall and we’re both very excited to give it a good try.
Furthermore the practice that we do in the next few months holds a second aim. In the future I hope to be able to offer big wall training for anyone interested in learning the ropes (sorry) before their first time attempting a big wall. By learning a few simple tips, tricks and techniques before one goes out to Yosemite or similar it is possible to attempt far more impressive routes and guarantee a much higher success rate. Many wall virgins come up against simple yet very time costly problems. I hope to be able to work out my training ideas with Kate and then unleash them on anyone who is willing to learn once we get back. Having taken someone up Salathe who had only followed three pitches in his life I’m confident we’ll go well.
Wish us luck.
